I just read via Twitter that the UUA is having a common read of Margaret Regan’s The Death of Josseline: Immigration Stories from the Arizona-Mexico Borderlands (Beacon Press, 2010). Here’s an expert of the UUA’s announcement of the common read.
I love the idea of our association coordinating a common read. I hope you’ll take the time to download the flier (PDF) and discuss with your team how this might fit in with your plans for 2010-2011.
Unitarian Universalist “Common Read”
For a 2010-11 Common Read, the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) offers Margaret Regan’s The Death of Josseline: Immigration Stories from the Arizona-Mexico Borderlands (Beacon Press, 2010). The hardcover book is available in public libraries and from the UUA Bookstore. In October 2010, the Bookstore will offer a paperback at bulk purchase discounts.
A Common Read project invites participants to read and discuss the same book in a given period of time. A Common Read can build community within congregations and among Unitarian Universalists by giving diverse people a shared experience, a shared language, and a basis for deep and meaningful conversations.
